Kusamala is thrilled to be working towards becoming a member of the Savory Institute Hub Network and joining a prestigious group of 27 Savory Network Hubs from 16 countries on all 6 habitable continents. The Savory Institute promotes large-scale restoration of the world’s grasslands through Holistic Management by empowering others to use properly managed livestock to heal the land.
In 2014 Kusamala applied with over 70 other applicants and in January 2015, we were chosen as 1 of 9 Hub candidates. Throughout 2015 we worked towards becoming an accredited hub: hosting a 5-day holistic management training for 10 staff in Malawi; sending 2 staff to Zimbabwe, to the African Centre for Holistic Manangement, for a 10-day intensive Hub Bootcamp training; attending the Savory Institute’s international conference and Hub gathering in California; hiring a holistic land manager to oversee our 650 hectare pilot grazing plan; and employing the first, and currently only, accredited Holistic Land Management trainer in Malawi.
We hope this partnership will benefit many more than Kusamala and will be using the tools, curriculum and support provided by the Savory Institute, to work together to develop land management plans that are economically, socially, and environmentally regenerative.
